Occupational Therapy for Veterans
& Their Families

Occupational Therapists can provide support to veterans by helping them regain independence and improve their quality of life, especially after experiencing physical and cognitive injuries, mental health challenges, or disabilities.

Our services include:

Individual Therapy:

One-on-one Occupational Therapy sessions address personal challenges such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, substance abuse, and/or adjustment to injury or illness, such as chronic pain management. Occupational Therapists can assist veterans manage these conditions by teaching stress reduction techniques and coping strategies to enhance emotional well-being.

Trauma-Informed Care:

Occupational Therapy can help veterans process and heal from traumatic experiences. Occupational Therapists often work synergistically with other mental health professionals, such as psychologists and counsellors, to extend mental health support into community settings and improve function. Our team uses a range of evidence-based treatment techniques, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Exposure Therapy.

Social Reintegration: 

Veterans may struggle with social reintegration or social anxieties after returning to civilian life. Occupational Therapists can assist by promoting self-advocacy skills, social interactions, and the development of healthy routines that foster relationships with family, friends, and their community.

Parent Coaching & Support for Children:

Our Occupational Therapists offer parent coaching sessions to help veteran parents develop strategies for improving their child’s overall well-being, in combination with their own mental health. Children of veterans often face unique emotional and psychological challenges, especially if a parent has experienced trauma during their service or has spent extended time away from their family. We recognize the toll that these experiences can take on children, and we are committed to providing compassionate, effective therapy services to support them through the healing process. •By working closely with parents, Occupational Therapists help create customized interventions that foster a positive, supportive environment at home, ultimately leading to improved outcomes for the veteran, child, and family.

Physical and Cognitive Health:

Our Occupational Therapy team can support with assessments and prescriptions for various equipment needs, as well as home safety, wheelchairs, return to work or leisure activities, workplace accommodations, ergonomic assessments, concussions and cognitive rehabilitation.

Occupational Therapists can support veterans with improving their working memory, attention, and problem-solving skills, helping them regain cognitive functioning to navigate daily tasks.

By addressing these areas, Occupational Therapists can play an essential role in helping veterans regain their independence, improve their quality of life, and reintegrate into civilian society more effectively.
